NEWS

Cape Fear Studios Thanks our Supporters!!!

Cape Fear Studios’ has been fortunate to be able receive help in purchasing 2 pieces of equipment this year. We were able to purchase a new display case for our retail area and new electric kiln for our pottery programs through the generosity of our supporters and the Arts Council’s Power2Give program. We would not have been able to purchase these two pieces of equipment without this program.  The Arts Council’s Power2Give program is a great way to multiply your donation to organizations and programs in our community.  Come by Cape Fear Studios to check out the jewelry in our new jewelry case and ask to see our shiny new kiln that enables our potters and their students to produce their work.

Cape Fear Studios Celebrates the Arts Recap

CFS Arts fest-27Thank you everyone who joined us for our First Annual Cape Fear Studios Celebration. We had members and friends who donated their time to demonstrate pottery, raku pottery, 2D painting, stained glass, and jewelry. Our volunteers and members  took charge of the kids activities and they had a great time decorating their pumpkins, soup spoons, sidewalk and clay leaves. CFS Arts fest-35The homemade soup was delicious and a big hit with all of our guests. Sweet Boutique joined us and donated the cookies, they were amazing! We had the kids choir  come out and provide us with musical accompaniment. Last but not least, we had amazing vendors who showed up to exhibit their handmade work! We had jewelers, woodwork, candle makers, crocheting, homespun yarn, photography, and eco-friendly baby items.

We enjoyed it so much that we will be hosting the event again next year. Those of you who weren’t able to participate will definitely have another chance next year. We hope to see you there! Contact us for vendor applications and details!

The 2014 Nellie Allen Smith Pottery Competition and Exhibit (20th Annual)

Opens October 24th 2014

Sponsored by: Frank and Glenda Till and Gerald and Naomi Ellison

Cape Fear Studios has been holding the Nellie Allen Smith Pottery Competition for 19 years.  Our goal was to give clay artists at first, locally and now nationally an opportunity to compete with their peers. We have been fortunate to have great community support and have been able to invite many accomplished potters to be our judge.  This year’s competition will be juried by Ellen Shankin a nationally recognized potter from Floyd, Virginia.
