Artist Statement:My original watercolors are created solely by me. I work from my own research and photography. Each new painting starts with a pencil drawing and then layers of thin washes of watercolor. As the piece progresses I apply more intense color and create more detail. The last part of the painting takes the longest time, completing the small details such as the fur, eyelashes and the eyes.
I usually start with 2" brushes and in the end up with a no. 2. Many of my works take from two weeks to four months to complete. The subject matter often dictates the style and approach I take for each new work. I only use professional painting quality materials and framing.
I paint a variety of subjects, all relating to nature's influences. Animals have always had a special place in my life and my work. As I work I keep in mind what the texture is, the smell, and the sounds associated with each animal I am portraying.
My reproductions are in the form of giclees and off set prints. Wentworth Printers in West Columbia, SC printed the off set prints on acid free papers and used light fast inks. The giclees were printed by Sebastian Graphics in High Point, NC using archival papers and inks.
