Artist Statement
Dreaming in color...
I have always dreamed in color and I have recall in color. Even as a child, color in snow, streams, rocks, skies and trees were part of my daydreams. I was finally able to study pastel painting and portraiture under Tom Moore when we moved to Fayetteville. Study, workshops, and daily life with other Cape Fear Studios artists have all brought me to Plein Air painting of landscapes. My style of painting is somewhat expressionistic; a result of how I feel things look, my work is not limited to photographs or actual scenes. I often paint what I see in my mind. A teenage boy from Spain came into my studio one day when I was working on a formal portrait. He said to me:
"I don't understand; all of this work is romantic, and yet now that!"
Sometimes you do not have to understand a piece of work, but just
have a feeling about it.
As artists, part of our job is to evoke a response.
