Artist Statement

Handcrafted objects enrich our lives...

My work is handcrafted from rugged stoneware clay and fired in a traditional manner using a wood-fired kiln.  This folk tradition goes back hundreds of years and creates functional pots which are earthy and unique.  The movement of flame in the wood kiln flashes or marks each pot in a different and beautiful way, creating a surface which is raw, subtle, and alive with spirit.  I find it rewarding making my pottery in this traditional manner, and believe that our lives are enriched by having and using handcrafted objects.
